Chizuko Ueno is a Professor Emeritus at the University of Tokyo, ph. D. in sociology. Born in 1948 and graduated from Graduate School of Kyoto University, with teaching experiences at various universities in and out of Japan. Pioneering in women’s studies and gender studies in Japan, she currently takes a position of a chief Director of NPO Women’s Action Network. Her fields cover a wide range from sexuality to women’s labor and ageing. Her major works are Patriarchy and Capitalism (1990), Sociology of Care (1911) among other numerous writings. She has two books in English translation, Nationalism and Gender (2004) and Modern Family in Japan: Its Rise and Fall (2009). Received Suntory Academic Prize in 1994, Asahi Award for her contribution to feminism and studies on care in 2011, and Hän Honor by the Finish government in 2019.

Asako Osaki is a policy and advocacy expert specializing in gender equality and empowerment of women and girls. After receiving an M.A. from Columbia University in international affairs, she joined U.N. Development Programme (UNDP) and served as the program manager in charge of promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment in developing countries. Since her return to Tokyo, she has been active in mainstreaming gender in Japan’s policies and programs, both those of domestic and overseas assistance, working with government, international organizations, NGOs, and municipalities. She now serves as Japan’s National Director for We Empower, a joint project of UN Women, ILO and EU that aims to promote gender equality in workplace in G7 countries, as well as Director of Plan International Japan.

Mr. Toshiya Kakiuchi, President and CEO, Mirairo Inc, was born in Aichi prefecture in 1989 and has been in a wheelchair from an early age, as his bones are fragile by nature, caused by osteogenesis imperfecta. He learned about entrepreneurship at Ritsumeikan University Business Administration and has created many business plans based on his own experience, such as creating barrier-free maps of university campuses. Nadya was born in Leningrad USSR and grew up in six different countries around the world, every time going to a local school. After joining Dentsu, she worked on various creative projects and has been awarded numerous creative and design awards worldwide, including being ranked number one copywriter in 2015. Dr. Tomo Noda is the founder of ISL (Institute for Strategic Leadership), a Tokyo-based educational institution dedicated to the development of next-generation leaders with the willpower, character and creativity necessary to catalyze social and business innovation in Japan.

Dr. NODA is an expert in organizational strategy and transformational leadership. Formerly he was a faculty member of the London Business School (1996-1997), INSEAD in Fontainebleau, France (1997-2000), INSEAD ASIA in Singapore (2001-2003), and SIMI in Denmark (1996-2005) where he taught strategic and international management to MBAs and exececutives.

His research has appeared in first-class academic and management journals including, The Strategic Management Journal, The Academy of Management Journal and The Harvard Business Review. At INSEAD, he received the best teacher award for his MBA course, entitled “Strategic Leadership”, for three consecutive years between 2001 and 2003. He left academia in December of 2003 to focus exclusively on the management of ISL.

Leveraging the resources and networks of ISL, he launched Shizenkan Graduate School (hereafter called Shizenkan) in Nihonbashi, Tokyo in August 2018. Shizenkan, officially approved by Japan’s ministry of education as a university, capitalizes on the strengths of both Western business (B-) schools and design (D-) schools, and aims to go beyond with particular emphases on humanity, value and integrity. Shizenkan work closely with India’s School of Inspired Leadership, Spain’s IESE Business School and other educational institutions across the world, for encouraging a paradigm shift of business school education and leadership development practices.

Dr. Noda holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Law from the University of Tokyo, a Master’s Degree in Science in Management from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a Doctorate in Business Administration (Business Policy) from Harvard University. He was born in Kyoto in 1959.

Co-founded Loftwork Inc. in 2000 and currently serves as its representative director. Loftwork is a new style of creative agency that boasts a network of over 25,000 creators. Hayashi pioneered the adoption of Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) guidelines in the creative industries in Japan, and has penned the book Web Project Management Standards. Hayashi is Japan Liaison to the Director of MIT Media Lab, a member of the Good Design Awards Screening Committee, and a member of the Manufacturing Industry Subcommittee of METI’s Industrial Structure Council Committee.

Fukuyama Tetsuro is a Member of the House of Councillors, serving fourth term.
He served as the Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary under Prime Minister Kan (2010-11) and State Minister for Foreign Affairs in the Hatoyama Cabinet (2009-10).
He was first elected in 1998. He has previously served as Chair of the Committee on Environment, Chair of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defense, Chair of the Special Committee on Reconstruction after the Great East Japan Earthquake. His past positions within the party include Chair of the Policy Research Committee of DPJ, and Deputy Secretary General of the Democratic Party.
Upon graduation from Doshisha University, Kyoto in 1986, he joined Daiwa Securities Co. Ltd. In 1990, he joined the Matsushita Institute of Government and Management where he conducted research on political issues related to Kyoto. After completing his Master’s course in political science in Kyoto University in 1995, he joined ‘New Party Sakigake’, and later joined the DPJ in 1999.
He inaugurated Secretary General of Constitutional Democratic Party in 2017. Mr. Fukuyama is also a Visiting Professor at Kyoto University of Art and Design.

Since Yumiko joined OECD in 2013 as the head of OECD Tokyo Centre, she has been at the forefront of policy discussions between OECD and governments, businesses and academia in Japan and Asia, covering a wide range of economic policy issues. She has been leading discussions with various stake holders in Japan and Asia, particularly in the areas of Corporate Governance, tax guidelines, gender diversity, education, international trade and innovation. Prior to joining the OECD, Yumiko held a number of leadership positions as a Managing Director at Goldman Sachs and Credit Suisse. Major produced works include Katsuhiko Hibino “Seed is a Ship Project” (2009-2013), Osamu Jareo “Totsutotsu Dance” (2010-). Also involved in planning for “Roppongi Art Night 2014” and “Saitama Triennale 2016”.

Shintaro Yamaguchi is an associate professor in economics at the University of Tokyo and an external research fellow at University College London. He received his Ph.D. from University of Wisconsin in 2006 and taught at McMaster University in Canada from 2006 to 2017. Mayuka Yamazaki started to practice ikebana since she was 18 years old under Risen Kajikawa, a headmaster of ko-ryu shoreikai, one of the ikebana factions in Japan. She became shihan master in 2011. In 2017, Mayuka launched IKERU initiative to introduce the spirit and beauty of the ikebana tradition to business and international audience.

Prior to committing herself fully to IKERU, Mayuka worked at Harvard Business School (HBS) Japan Research Center as a liaison director who connects Japan with HBS since 2006. While 10 years of her working at HBS, Mayuka co-authored about 30 HBS cases about Japanese companies, business leaders and societal issues with HBS professors. Mayuka also played a critical role in designing and running a class in which HBS students study in the 3.11 disaster-affected Tohoku areas and she published a book “Why and What Has Harvard studied in Tohoku, Japan” in August 2016.

Mayuka also worked as Project Assistant Professor at Tokyo University Medical School to develop all-English leadership programs since 2010. Prior to that, Mayuka worked as a management consultant at McKinsey & Company. She graduated with BA in Economics from Tokyo University and with Master of Science in Foreign Service (academic excellence) from Georgetown University.
